Carlton E. Thornton, Jr. - President - Durham Chapter - NCCU Alumni Association

NCCU Alumni Association (Durham Chapter)
January 01, 2011
Dear Alumni & Friends

Happy New Year!

Representation
North Carolina Central University has an alumni base of more than 25,000 alumni. Alumni Association leaders serve as the voice of the alumni and represent alumni concerns and priorities to the University administration.

Advocacy
Competitive faculty salaries and state-of-the-art facilities are critical for the University to increase its ranking and to preserve the value of a North Carolina Central University diploma. The Durham Chapter supports the University's goals and priorities through advocacy with legislators.

Recruitment
To remain among the nation's best public universities, it's vital that North Carolina Central University attracts the best and brightest young minds. The Durham Chapter does its part by sponsoring alumni admission volunteers and raise funding for The NCCU Alumni National Scholars Program.

NCCU Alumni Newsletter
It's critical to the University's success that alumni stay well-informed about NCCU's achievements and challenges. The Durham Chapter's NCCU Alumni Eagle Eye e-Newsletter and the National Newsletter brings alumni and supporters comprehensive NCCU coverage.

Increase the value of your NCCU Degree
Your paid membership and donations makes North Carolina Central University the strongest institution possible. Alumni involvement enhances the value of a North Carolina Central University degree.

Dedication to our Students
The Alumni Association is committed to helping the University recruit excellent students. A strong Alumni Association demonstrates that NCCU is more than just four years of college; it is a lifetime of pride, passion, and tradition. Alumni interaction with students solidifies relationships with the University.

Alumni Achievement
The most effective way to increase the value of a NCCU degree is to showcase the accomplishments of our scores of alumni. The Alumni Association is dedicated to recognizing these individuals through our Awards program, our alumni newsletters and the "NCCU Alumni Today" radio show. Highlighting alumni achievement brings credibility to the University's many programs and makes NCCU desirable to those with similar aspirations.

Increase NCCU's National Rankings
A strong Alumni Association makes a stronger university and increases the value of an North Carolina Central University degree. For North Carolina Central University to continue to be a great institution of higher learning, strong alumni support is critical. National ranking organizations agree, alumni participation is included in their evaluations, and ultimately in how they rank an institution. Membership in the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association helps NCCU rise in regional and national rankings.

Make Connections through Participation
Events and programs are developed and offered each year for alumni to come home to North Carolina Central University, either on campus or with alumni and friends across the Eagle Nation. Examples of these events include Homecoming, reunions, pregame functions and NCCU Alumni & Friends networking events. Member dues support these and other opportunities for alumni to stay connected to campus, former classmates, and our world-class faculty and Staff.

Career Services For Alumni
NCCU Career Services is focused on building career successes in our students and alumni, making them marketable and skilled with computer-assisted opportunities, while expanding and promoting their abilities and understanding of how to be successful in college and in life.  NCCU Career Services offer career exploration, self-assessment, experiential learning opportunities, job hunting strategies, networking, and job placements.

Thank you for your continued support and please forward this e-mail to all NCCU Alumni and supporters in your address book.

Best Regards,

Carlton E. Thornton, Jr
